Who is Soulvay?
Ryan Anthony Jesse, aka “Soulvay,” was born in East Detroit, Michigan, on April 1st, 1998. He was raised by his single mother with his half-brother. Soulvay would get his music from his uncle Roland Jesse, who sadly passed away in 2018 due to health issues. His uncle would give him cassettes of artists from 2pac to Eminem to 50 Cent and Blade Icewood. It was not until 2010 when Soulvay lost his close friend from childhood to a drug OD who was an artist himself, and Soulvay heard some of his music after his friend passed, that he wanted to pursue music.
Soulvay graduated high school in 2016, where he met fellow artist “kewl Jimi” who is cousins with fellow Detroit artist “baby face ray”; kewl Jimi and Soulvay started performing locally in the underground in high school and the rest of the 2010s SoundCloud rap era. In 2012, Soulvay opened for Obie Trice, and in 2017, Soulvay regularly performed at “The Bullfrog” and “the Russell Industrial Center.” Soulvay also has acting credits under his belt, including Young Roc’s short film “Forest from the Sky” in 2019. In 2021 Soulvay was offered a deal with two major labels but turned one down, and the second one was revoked after artist “mgk” offered the label twice as much in the contract to not sign “Soulvay” so instead, Soulvay and his best friend kewl Jimi started their label “ice entertainment” where Soulvay released his debut album “02.22.22 LP” and took aim at “mgk” on the track “f*** Mercy.”
Soulvay’s debut album with the singles “cul de trap” and “2 Jon doe’s” Soulvay shows you he can rap any style in the genre. Name a artist who is doing innovative things like soulvay I will wait, especially with his caliber rhymes can’t be matched by anyone in the new school. It will be amazing to see where the music takes Soulvay. He is currently working on his sophomore album with the release date TBA, and we definitely will be watching closely. It will definitely be another classic.
